» Whitney Port: “No More Shows About My Personal Life”

This month, the search for the next great American boyfriend begins with Genuine Ken, a Hulu-only reality series hosted by Whitney Port of The Hills, The City, and eponymous-fashion-line fame.

To promote the show and premiere the first episode, the lovely—and yes, Barbie-esque—Whitney Port welcomed a small group to the penthouse at the Soho House in L.A. on Tuesday for cocktails and a peek at the Genuine Ken contestants themselves. (Seven of the eight Kens were in attendance; the eighth was at a cheerleading competition. More on that later.)

When VF Daily asked Whitney how hosting compares with starring in her past shows, she told us, “I don’t think I want to do a show again based on my personal life. So if I could do something like this, where I can still show some personality without having the spotlight on me, that would be great!”

It’s unclear what was most entertaining in the first episode of Genuine Ken—the first competition talent show, the Kens and their healthy egos, or Whitney Port’s reactions to them.

Each week, the Kens compete on everything from interior design to cooking to, you guessed it, cheerleading. Sometimes they write poems (one contestant’s is creatively called “Love”); sometimes they sing songs. Could real Ken do all those things?
