Whitney Port The City

New York, NY, United States (AHN) – It looks like Whitney Port is out of a job. The former “The Hills” reality star who made waves with her spin-off in “The City,” has been canceled by MTV.

A spokesperson for the Music channel says: “’The City’ will not be returning to MTV for season three.”

“Whitney has been a part of our family for many years and we wish her and the cast the best, and hope to collaborate with them again.”

The announcement doesn’t come as a surprise for Port, as she herself hinted that the show would end during an interview with Ryan Seacrest on his radio show. “As of right now it doesn’t really look like we’re doing it anymore,” she said.

“The City” followed Port as she moved from the west coast to New York City in pursuit of a fashion career while in the big city.

This doesn’t look like it’s the end of Port’s career in the fashion world, though. She told Seacrest, “It’s OK – one door closes and another opens,” adding that she has several new projects lined up for the future as well.

W-D.com: We are very sad about the news, but we’ll continue to follow Whitney in everything she is doing.

» ‘The City’s’ Whitney Port: Will break hearts for photos

In this episode of “The City,” Whitney Port is breaking hearts to get her “lookbook” finished, and Erin Kaplan wins another battle against Olivia Palermo.

Erin scores, Olivia bores
Erin has really been on a roll this season when it comes to giving Olivia a run for her money (and creative director Joe Zee’s attention). This time around the conflict revolved around Elle’s spring cover, which Black Eyed Peas’ belter Fergie would be gracing. The shoot took place in Los Angeles, but the wardrobe was pulled in New York City. On the one side, they chose a pretty edgy and revealing outfit with Olivia’s usual chunky jewelry. Erin preferred a prettier, more feminine look for the singer.

Before we get to the L.A. shoot, how great was it that Joe pulled Olivia aside and basically told her that her job performance wasn’t good enough to go to L.A. for the Fergie shoot? How much greater was it when she lied to Seth, the assistant, and said she preferred to stay at the office instead? Those kinds of Olivia moments are just golden. By the way, who is this Seth? I like him. I love when he ratted out Olivia for not being at work for a while.

Olivia was at lunch with Elle’s new fashion director, Alexis Bryan Morgan. That was a nice power move for Olivia, but she actually seemed really nervous, even stuttered a couple times while talking. No matter. It seemed that they shared the same social circle and knew each other already. Quite honestly, I could barely understand a word either of them said. Their conversation was more like a label-dropping competition strung together with words that were supposed to be sentences. They were really just bridges to the next designer name they could mention. I couldn’t have been more bored to tears by the entire thing.

Either way, they seemed to be part of the same sisterhood, and that means just as much in class-conscious New York than one’s resume or skills. Before you flame me for saying that, I went to college and worked in New York City for several years. So I’m speaking from experience. And please note that I said it “means just as much,” not more. One can make it in New York City as an outsider, but many times one needs to work a bit harder when others walk in with legacy on their side.

Meanwhile, in L.A., Erin wasn’t pulling any punches. She didn’t like Olivia’s chunky jewelry and the revealing bra-and-hot-pants ensemble on Fergie, but Joe did. I have to say there was something very striking about that look. Oh, I know. She was almost naked. Erin preferred Fergie in the dress, and I thought that was more appropriate for a spring cover, didn’t you? I loved that car ride in which Joe kept insisting Erin acknowledge Olivia’s talent in picking jewelry. I thought she was going to open the door and fling herself out. Instead, she just did it with her face scrunched angrily.

Later, after Joe explained some horrifying process of using focus groups and the ilk to choose the cover, he announced that it would be – no surprise here – the flirty dress that screamed spring! And like a good little instigator, Seth whispered to Olivia, “She’s not even wearing any jewelry.” Nice. Seth is a double agent.

Whitney’s choice
There was very little action for Whitney in this episode. She went on a date with the French photographer, Jonathon, who she met at the Ruelala.com shoot. All signs pointed to this guy being a crazy romp for the California transplant. He’s French (something Kelly Cutrone says fashion girls should try dating at least once), worked as a war photographer and rides a motorcycle. The problem was that those were the most exciting things about him. Let’s face it: He wasn’t exactly the best conversationalist. Whitney, who has had a record of dating bad boys who (allegedly) cheat on her, didn’t feel a spark with Frenchie. Therein lied her dilemma.

He offered to shoot her “lookbook” for free. When Whitney mentioned it to Roxy Olin and Kelly at the office, they agreed she should take him up on it. Kelly, though, advised her to make it clear to him that she wouldn’t accept it with strings attached. That meant she would probably have to tell him she’s not interested in dating him and lose her free photographer.

So, Whitney’s “lookbook” shoot goes forward, and there’s Jonathon behind the camera. It’s obvious from the flirting and the fact that he asked her out again that he’s still into her. When Kelly asks Whitney if she has told him that she doesn’t want to date him, Whitney says no. Afterward, Whitney takes him aside and tells him she wants to “keep it professional.” Ouch. Whitney, how could you? I hope he sent a bill.

» Designer Whitney Port Spills On Her Line!

‘The City’ starlet and designer shares her spring/summer style tips, talks about the trends she wishes she could forget, tells you how to look good on a budget, and spills on her relationship with Kelly Cutrone!

Whitney Port may have her every move documented on MTV’s hit show, The City, but there’s more to this designer than you could imagine! We got to catch up with the hard-working, California native who opened up about what it was like to launch her line at Fashion Week in front of the cameras, what celebs she’s dying to see in her stuff, and what her relationship with Kelly Cutrone is really like. The talented designer also spilled on the top trends — and the ones she can’t believe she ever followed! Find out what inspires Whitney and learn more about her covetable collection, Whitney Eve– I recently previewed the fall line, which was full of girly, edgy pieces that reminded me of Whitney’s unique sense of style!

Where do you usually draw your inspiration from? What’s your inspiration behind the spring line you’re working on now?
“I draw all of my design inspiration from my life. I try to keep the easy and casual California girl in me, mixed with a New York City girl. So effortless, vibrant and empowering. When I was creating my Spring collection I wanted it to look like…Alice in Wonderland goes to a cocktail party…”

What was it like showing a line for the first time and going through the process in front of the cameras?
“It was crazy. I felt like I blacked out or something, like it just happened in an instant, and then it was over. You put in all this effort—you realize when you’re backstage that fashion isn’t just fun and games—and then you get to see all your hard work come to fruition. It was overwhelming and very emotional.”

You seemed anxious and stressed about whether or not you were ready to show your collection, what was your biggest fear?
“I was really nervous and I had worked so hard, that to put in all that work and show the collection in front of everyone at Bryant Park in addition to everyone watching MTV, was really overwhelming. Especially because it was my first collection. My biggest fear was that I was presenting so early in my career, I wanted to make a great first impression.”

What’s your relationship like with Kelly Cutrone? How has it grown/changed from when you first started working for her?
“Kelly and I are good friends. She and I have a relationship on a different level since I worked for her, she has evolved into a good friend and always offers great advice. I consider her a mentor.”

What was your first big purchase after being on The Hills?
“A Miu Miu purse.”

What are five things you think every girl should have in their closet this season?
“1. This season I think every girl should have a great pair of shorts. Shorts are so versatile; pair them with heels and a blazer for a night out, or wear them with a comfortable pair of ballet flats. Either way, you will look chic and can wear them tons of different ways. I have a great pair of shorts in the Whitney Eve collection that I wear all the time.”

“2. I also love stripes this season, you can pick up striped pieces anywhere from Intermix and Barneys to the Gap and American Apparel, so there is a broad price range.”

“3. An industrial/army style jacket is a popular trend this spring. With the NYC weather always changing, it’s smart to never leave home without one. This is a great way to add a touch of effortless style to your look and these jackets also range in price; Rag and Bone, Theory or JCrew, you can pick one up at any price point.”

“4. Bright and fun nail polish. Instantly liven up a simple white t-shirt and jeans. Bright nails are fun and are an easy way to be daring. Experiment with green and neon colors which are perfect for warm weather months.”

“5. This season, all girls need a great flirty dress in nude or watercolor tones that they can wear out at night or to work. You can always pair it with different accessories to create a new look every time.”

How would you describe your personal style?
“I mix high and low… play off of vintage pieces and update them with modern accessories. Don’t be afraid to mix and match patterns, textures, colors.”

What shopping advice would you offer to a girl who wants to look good on a budget?
“Make sure that anything you buy matches with many different things and can be worn many different ways- for example buy tops that can be dressed up or down, can be worn with jeans, black pants or a pencil skirt.”

What was your last purchase under $50? $30?
“Under $50- an American Apparel Tank Top. Under $30-Butterfly Hanky Pankys.”

Do you have any secret shopping stops in LA & NYC?
“In LA-Market and Feature in Brentwood, in NYC- Trash and Vaudeville on St Marks Place.”

What’s one trend you regret following?
“Pashminas.”

If there’s one celeb you would love to see wearing your collection, who is it and why?
“Ashley Olsen, Kate Bosworth, Rihanna, Keira Knightley – they are so ahead of the trends, willing to take chances and rock everything they put on.”

Where do you see yourself in five years?
“Continuing to design and developing my clothing line.”

» Roxy Olin Doesn’t Like Olivia Palermo

Taking a break from her reality TV life, Roxy Olin spent the day with her beau in the West Village district of New York City today (May 17).

The 24-year-old socialite star of The City could be seen wasting away the afternoon window shopping while cozying up with her longtime live-in boyfriend.

Meanwhile, Roxy says castmate Olivia Palermo is “hard to deal with” and claims that fans will see her and Whitney Port standing up to Olivia more this season.

“I did have a confrontation. I think you’ll see it. Whitney’s [confrontation] is great though. You know how sweet Whitney is,” she tells MTV.

She insists that Olivia, who is an accessories editor at Elle, is “hard to deal with” and that the pair do “butt heads.”

Roxy adds: “I’m definitely on Whitney’s team with this and after watching it, I’m like, ‘Oh, my God! You’re not a nice girl and what you’re willing to do [to people], and you’re sabotaging someone’s [fashion] line that they worked so hard [on], and have been your friend and have been in your corner.’ It’s cutthroat in the fashion world and she is one of our obstacles.”

This isn’t the first time Olivia has been criticized by her co-stars. Earlier this month, Whitney told New York Magazine: “Olivia and I have never really been the best of friends….I think that there’s obviously some level of insecurity on her part, and she’s showing it. I don’t know that she knows that she’s showing it, but it definitely comes through…. Olivia’s one of those people who doesn’t care about anybody but herself. That’s why it’s not so surprising because she doesn’t want to help anybody else out. She’s only out for herself.”

» Whitney Parties With Kristin and Brody

Whitney Port may find the cast of The Hills this season “crazy” and “out-of-control” but that didn’t stop her from partying with Kristin and Brody et al at the Wango Tango show at the Staples Center over the weekend!

“I feel like they’re all self-imploding or something,” Whitney said during a chat with Ryan Seacrest Friday. “I’m just in shock,” she added, “I think they’re just going crazy.”

Whitney wouldn’t name names for fear of retaliation from the notoriously fight-happy crew. But it didn’t look like any backlash happened as the crew seemed to party in peace at KIIS FM’s annual show.

Course Heidi and Spencer didn’t show, so maybe Whit should still be watching her back!
